About Us

In Tanzania, millions of children face barriers to learning in a changing world. We turn those barriers into opportunities through literacy, climate action, and inclusion.

What We Stand For

We believe in the power of children to change the world when they are given the right tools and opportunities. At the Georgina Foundation, we stand for education that empowers, communities that care, and a future where young people lead the way toward a more just and sustainable planet.

Our Vision

A future where every child has the power to learn, thrive, and lead their communities in protecting the environment.

Our Mission

We promote literacy and climate education as interconnected pathways to equity, resilience, and sustainable futures for children in underserved communities.

Our Approach

Rather than treating children as passive beneficiaries, we place them at the heart of our work as active participants and leaders. We focus on practical, community-based interventions that connect what children learn in books with what they experience in their daily lives. Through this model, children become readers, thinkers, problem-solvers, and stewards of their environment. We deliver our work through four interconnected pillars:

Literacy & Climate Justice

We integrate literacy with environmental education to help children understand their world and their role in protecting it. By linking reading, storytelling, and learning with topics such as climate change, food security, and sustainability, we strengthen academic skills while building awareness of environmental responsibility. This ensures that education is about developing informed, engaged citizens.

Child-Led Action

We empower children to take ownership of change within their schools and communities. Through reading clubs, tree planting, gardening, and peer learning activities, children apply what they learn in practical ways. These experiences build leadership, confidence, and a sense of agency, showing children that they are not too young to contribute to solutions that affect their lives and futures.

Inclusive Education

We are committed to ensuring that no child is left behind. Our programs prioritize children with disabilities and other marginalized groups by providing inclusive learning materials such as Braille books, sign language support, and adapted tools. By removing barriers to participation, we help create learning environments where every child can engage, contribute, and succeed.

Community Ownership

We recognize that sustainable change must be rooted in the community. Our work actively involves parents, teachers, caregivers, and local leaders to strengthen support systems around children. Through storytelling, campaigns, and intergenerational learning, we build shared responsibility and local leadership that allow programs to continue and grow beyond our direct involvement.

Our Impact

Our impact is both what we have achieved so far and what we are building toward. Today, we are reaching thousands of children with books, inclusive learning tools, and climate education. Looking ahead, we are committed to expanding our programs, deepening community partnerships, and scaling a national eco-literacy movement that equips children to lead resilient, sustainable futures.

Our Story

From a single act of compassion to a nationwide vision — the Georgina Foundation was created to ensure every child can learn, thrive, and shape a better future.

The Georgina Foundation was born from a simple but powerful moment. When Georgina Magesa visited her grandfather’s village in Tanzania, she saw children walking long distances to school under the sun, learning without books, and struggling against the realities of climate change. What struck her most was not only the lack of resources but the determination of these children to learn despite the obstacles.

Instead of turning away, Georgina began gathering children under a tree each afternoon to teach them how to read, write, and tell stories. She shared the books she had, introduced basic lessons, and encouraged them to plant trees as a way of caring for their environment. In those early sessions, she discovered that education and environmental action could grow together — and that children, when trusted and supported, could lead meaningful change in their own communities.

With the support of her family and inspired by her mother’s lifelong commitment to caring for vulnerable people, Georgina transformed this small initiative into a larger vision. In 2024, the Georgina Foundation was formally established to ensure that children across Tanzania, especially those from marginalized and underserved communities, have access to quality education, inclusive learning tools, and practical climate knowledge.

Today, the Foundation works with schools, communities, and partners to promote literacy, climate justice, and inclusion. What began under a single tree has grown into a movement — one that believes every child deserves the opportunity to learn, to thrive, and to help shape a more just and sustainable future.
